The Greens deal to preference Labor in key seats effectively is a vote for Labor’s costly and environmentally damaging desalination plant, Londonderry Liberal Candidate, Bart Bassett said today.

“The Greens are preferencing Labor in ten of 13 marginal Government seats being contested by the Liberal Party including Londonderry – and in four out of the five most marginal Liberal-held seats,” he said.

Mr Bassett warned voters not to be fooled by the Greens so called care and concern for the environment and climate change

“Despite Labor’s desalination plant belching out greenhouse gases into the environment and creating problems for marine life, the Greens have chosen to back Labor

Unlike Labor the Liberal/National water plan is a win for the environment with increased environmental flows for the Hawkesbury/Nepean River and will be delivered at a fraction of the $1.9 Billion price tag for Labor’s desalination plant”, Mr Bassett said.

“The NSW Liberal/Nationals will commit $955.7 million to construct and establish a ‘New Water’ Network in Sydney as well as another $120 Million to establish a Storm Water Harvesting Trust that will work with communities to harvest storm water that currently is wasted out to sea and could be used to water local parks, gardens and sporting fields.

It is clear from the preference deal with Labor that the Greens are more interested in getting the Labor Govt re-elected than dealing with real environmental outcomes.

Labor has had 12 years to fix the problems facing NSW. By voting for the Greens you will be voting for the desalination plant and allowing Joe Tripodi, Michael Costa and Frank Sartor to call the shots in NSW for 4 more years”, Mr Bassett concluded.
