A NSW Liberal/Nationals Government will spend $470 million to link inland treatment plants in North Western Sydney and upgrade the North Richmond Water Filtration Plant as part of the $955.7 Million water plan, Londonderry Liberal Candidate Bart Bassett said today.
NSW Opposition Leader and Shadow Minister for Western Sydney Peter Debnam and Liberal Candidate for Londonderry Bart Bassett today met with local residents at North Richmond to announce a major upgrade of the North Richmond Water Filtration Plant.
“After 12 years of Labor there has been no major upgrade of the North Richmond Water Filtration Plant,” Mr Debnam said.
“North Richmond Water Filtration Plant will be upgraded with the latest, state-of-the-art technology to make sure local water supplies are the best in the world.
“A NSW Liberal/Nationals Government will commit $955.7 million to construct and establish a ‘New Water’ Network in Sydney.
“Our plan will provide up to 86 billion litres of high grade drinking quality water per year, while maintaining and enhancing environmental flows in our rivers.
“As a first priority we will use this new purified recycled water to take the strain off the existing drinking water supply in our dams by substituting it for water currently used for agriculture, industry and environmental flows in the Hawkesbury-Nepean River.
“The increased environmental flows in the Hawkesbury-Nepean River will help improve the health of the river, helping to tackle the salvinia and alligator weed and the egeria densa.
“My plan will produce twice the amount of water than Labor’s energy guzzling desalination plant at half the cost.
“As a long term local resident, Bart Bassett has shown leadership on water by backing high quality recycled water to boost Sydney drinking water supplies,” Mr Debnam said.
Mr Bassett said he was keen to continue to fight for the use of high quality recycled water to boost Sydney drinking water supplies.
“Hawkesbury’s residents have been drinking recycled water for the last 40 years and as a long-term local I can attest to its high quality,” Mr Bassett said.
“As well as boosting Sydney’s drinking water supplies the NSW Liberal/Nationals plan will increase environmental flows for the Hawkesbury-Nepean River. This will significantly improve the health of the river,” he said.
“Our ‘New Water’ Network for Sydney is a better option to Labor’s energy guzzling desalination plant.
“Only a NSW Liberal/Nationals Government can get NSW back in front and address Sydney’s water crisis,” Mr Bassett said. |
